Section 8 Waiting List Opening June 11, 2024 @ 9:00 A.M.

Deland Housing Authority will be accepting applications for the Housing Choice Voucher Section 8 Waiting list online at:

delandhousingauthority.housingmanager.com

Beginning Tuesday June 11, 2024 @ 9:00 A.M. and will remain open until 1,000 pre applications have been received. Applications can be submitted from any smart phone, any home computer, at a public library, or any place where you may access a computer. Persons with disability or limited English proficiency who need assistance to complete the pre-application must contact Deland Housing Authority office by Monday June 3, 2024 to schedule an appointment.

What are Housing Choice Vouchers or Section 8?

The Housing Choice Voucher program is the Federal Government's major program for assisting very -low and low -income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. Since housing assistance is provided on behalf of the family or individual, participants can find their own housing, including single-family homes, townhouses, and apartments.

A family that is issued a Housing Choice Voucher is responsible for finding a suitable housing unit of the family's choice where the owner agrees to rent under the program. This unit may include the family's present rental residence. Rental units must meet standards of health and safety, as determined by the PHA.

A housing subsidy is paid to the landlord directly by the PHA on behalf of the participating family. The family then pays the difference between the actual rent charged by the landlord and the amount subsidized by the program.
